Clinical Application
Designed to provide direct visualization of the external auditory canal and tympanic membrane during diagnostic otoscopy and minor aural procedures. The speculum is commonly used in ENT clinics, outpatient procedure rooms, and surgical suites for tasks such as cerumen removal, assessment of otitis and tympanic membrane inspection, and as an entry port for microscopic or endoscopic instrumentation.
Design & Configuration
The Hartmann Fig.3 geometry features a straight, conical funnel that gently dilates the ear canal while maintaining a clear line of sight to the tympanic membrane. The flared rim stabilizes the canal opening and helps center the optical axis for handheld otoscopy or microscope use. The 6.0 mm size balances access and patient comfort for many adult canals, permitting instrument passage for suction or microinstruments when indicated.
