Clinical Application
Designed to provide a reliable, atraumatic view of the external auditory canal and tympanic membrane during otologic examinations and minor procedures. The oval aperture facilitates direct line-of-sight visualization for diagnostic inspection, cerumen removal, suctioning, and placement of small instruments under microscopy or headlamp illumination. It is intended for use by ENT surgeons, audiology clinics, and ambulatory surgery centers where a durable, reusable speculum is required.
Design & Configuration
The oval Gruber geometry creates a broad viewing window while distributing contact over a wider surface of the canal wall to reduce focal pressure and patient discomfort. Fig. 4 represents a mid-range aperture in the Gruber series; the 7.5 mm diameter balances improved visualization with atraumatic engagement of the canal. The simple, tapered profile eases insertion and retention during routine otologic maneuvers and accommodates standard otologic suction and instrumentation.
