Clinical Application
Designed for otologic use in clinic, emergency and ambulatory settings, this instrument provides controlled removal of small foreign bodies and impacted cerumen from the external auditory canal. The loop is used under direct visualization (otoscope or operating microscope) to engage and extract particulate material, beads, insects, cotton, or soft wax while minimizing contact with the canal skin and tympanic membrane. Appropriate for use in adult and pediatric patients when visualization and canal size permit.
Design & Configuration
The Figure 1 loop presents a narrow, rounded aperture on a slender shank to allow gentle scooping and engagement of debris without sharp edges that could abrade the canal epithelium. The 16 cm length provides reach and tactile control for single‑handed manipulation while maintaining a safe working distance for the operator. The loop geometry concentrates retrieval force at the tip, helping capture small, low‑profile objects that are difficult to grasp with forceps.
