Clinical Application
Designed for use in operative vaginal delivery, this Naegele pattern obstetrical forceps provide controlled traction and limited rotation of the fetal head during the second stage of labor. Indications include maternal exhaustion, prolonged second stage, or non-reassuring fetal status when a vaginal operative delivery is appropriate and clinician competence and facility resources permit. Proper application requires concurrent assessment of fetal head position, station, and the presence of pelvic adequacy.
Design & Configuration
The Naegele geometry features a cephalic curve on each blade so the instrument seats around the fetal head, distributing grip forces over a broader contact area to reduce focal pressure. The two-blade articulating construction with a locking hinge allows the operator to align and secure the blades before applying traction, enabling controlled, incremental force and guided rotation as clinically required. The 40 cm overall length balances shaft reach with tactile feedback for deep engagements while maintaining ergonomic control for the delivering clinician.
