Clinical Application
Designed for operative vaginal delivery, this obstetrical forceps provide controlled application of traction and limited rotational force to the fetal head during the second stage of labor. The instrument is used by trained obstetricians in situations where assisted delivery is indicated and when conditions (fetal position, cervical dilation, and maternal pelvis) are appropriate. It is commonly selected as an alternative to vacuum extraction or when rotation or more precise grip of the head is required.
Design & Configuration
The Naegele pattern features opposing curved blades with a cephalic curve that conforms to the fetal head and maternal birth canal. Fenestrated blade openings reduce surface contact while cradling the skull, distributing pressure across the blade margin to minimize focal compression. Paired, articulated shanks with a locking mechanism allow for controlled approximation of the blades and secure grip during traction and rotation. The 36 cm overall length provides reach and leverage appropriate for most assisted vaginal deliveries.
