Clinical Application
Designed for spinal procedures, this instrument is used to bite and remove small segments of bone and soft tissue during laminectomy and decompression. It facilitates controlled excision of lamina, ligamentum flavum, osteophytes and small facet fragments to enlarge the spinal canal and relieve neural compression. The size and jaw geometry are suited to targeted bone removal in posterior cervical, thoracic, and lumbar approaches where precision and tactile control are required.
Design & Configuration
The ring-handle, hinged configuration provides mechanical advantage and fine tactile feedback for sequential biting and controlled tissue removal in confined operative corridors. The cupped jaw profile concentrates force at the bite edge to produce clean, reproducible cuts in cortical and cancellous bone while minimizing unintended soft-tissue trauma. At 150 mm overall length the profile balances reach and control for exposure through standard posterior incisions.
