Clinical Application
This lamina spreader is intended for use in spinal procedures to provide controlled midline distraction of the laminae and posterior soft tissues, improving visualization and access during decompression, laminotomy/laminectomy, and instrumented fusion exposures. The Cloward pattern is commonly used in open spinal approaches where sustained, locked retraction is required to maintain an unobstructed operative field while the surgeon works on bony and neural elements.
Design & Configuration
The cam/ratchet locking mechanism provides incremental opening and secure retention of the chosen distraction width, allowing the assistant or surgeon to set and maintain exposure without continuous manual force. The 17 cm length gives adequate reach for typical cervical and thoracolumbar posterior exposures, while the 90 mm spread capacity accommodates a range of anatomical corridors. The simple lever-and-ratchet design enables quick adjustment and reliable locking during bony work and implant placement.
