Clinical Application
The Pederson 120x25mm speculum is intended to provide atraumatic visualization of the vaginal canal and cervix during outpatient gynecologic procedures. Its narrow, flat blades are particularly suited for nulliparous patients, patients with a narrow introitus, or postmenopausal patients with atrophic tissues. Typical uses include routine pelvic exams and Pap testing, colposcopy, IUD placement or removal, and minor diagnostic or therapeutic intra-vaginal procedures that require direct visualization and access to the cervix.
Design & Configuration
The Pederson pattern features narrower, flatter blades than wider Graves-style specula. This geometry reduces lateral stretching of the vaginal walls and improves patient comfort while still providing a focused view of the cervix. The 120 mm blade length supports deeper visualization when required, and the narrower 25 mm blade width minimizes trauma in tight canals. A self-retaining bivalve configuration with an adjustable locking mechanism enables hands-free access to the operative field, allowing the clinician to use both hands for instrumentation or sampling.
