Clinical Application
This speculum provides atraumatic exposure of the vaginal walls and cervix for diagnostic and minor therapeutic procedures. Its narrow-blade geometry is intended to minimize lateral pressure on the introitus, making it well-suited for routine pelvic exams, Pap smears, colposcopy, IUD insertion/removal, and minor office-based vaginal procedures—particularly in patients with a smaller or less distensible introitus.
Design & Configuration
The Pederson pattern features two opposing, relatively flat and narrow blades that spread anterior and posterior vaginal walls without significant lateral widening. The narrow profile reduces discomfort and improves visualization in patients with a tight introitus or atrophic tissues. An adjustable opening with a locking mechanism allows the clinician to set and maintain exposure with one hand, facilitating instrument passage, speculum-mounted sampling devices, or colposcopic assessment.
