Clinical Application
Used to mechanically dilate the cervical canal to a known diameter during gynecologic procedures. The 8.0 mm size provides a predictable lumen for introduction of uterine instruments, hysteroscopes or IUD inserters, and is commonly used as part of a sequential dilation series for procedures such as dilation and curettage, diagnostic or operative hysteroscopy, and office-based cervical preparation.
Design & Configuration
The single-ended Hegar design is a straight, cylindrical rod with a smooth, tapered and rounded tip to allow atraumatic entry and progressive stretching of cervical tissue. The fixed 8.0 mm diameter delivers repeatable, tactile feedback so clinicians can assess resistance and avoid over-dilation. The simple straight geometry is compatible with standard manual dilation technique and can be used in sequence with smaller and larger Hegar sizes for graduated dilation.
