Clinical Application
Used to achieve controlled, atraumatic cervical dilation in gynecologic procedures. The 7.5 mm diameter provides a mid-range dilation suitable for procedures that require passage of endoscopes, curettes, or intrauterine devices, and is commonly used as part of a graduated dilator set during dilation and curettage, hysteroscopy preparation, office procedures, and endometrial sampling. Proper technique involves gentle, incremental insertion (often after smaller sizes have been used) with attention to patient comfort and cervical integrity.
Design & Configuration
The single-ended Hegar pattern features a smooth, straight cylindrical shaft with a rounded, blunt tip to minimize risk of cervical trauma during dilation. The single working end provides consistent tactile feedback and diameter control during insertion. The straightforward geometry allows predictable, incremental dilation when used in sequence with other Hegar sizes.
