Clinical Application
Hegar dilators are used to mechanically dilate the cervical canal to permit passage of instruments and access to the uterine cavity. The 5.5 mm diameter provides a controlled, small-caliber dilation appropriate for diagnostic office procedures, initial sequential dilation, IUD placement, sonohysterography setup, or gentle preparation for operative hysteroscopy and dilation & curettage. The smooth, rounded tip reduces the risk of mucosal trauma while allowing reliable tactile feedback during advancement.
Design & Configuration
This single-ended, straight rod features a gradual taper to a polished, rounded tip. The solid, straight geometry gives predictable stiffness and axial control that clinicians rely on for gentle, progressive dilation. The single-ended configuration focuses on a defined working end and proximal shaft for secure handling and precise manipulation, reducing the chance of tissue snagging during insertion and withdrawal. When used in sequence with adjacent sizes, it enables incremental dilation with minimal force.
