Clinical Application

This instrument is a Hegar-style uterine dilator in a single-ended configuration, intended for controlled mechanical dilation of the cervical canal. It is used to progressively enlarge the cervical os to allow access for diagnostic and operative gynecologic procedures such as dilation and curettage (D&C), hysteroscopy introduction, and other interventions requiring cervical access. The 27.5 mm diameter is selected when a larger cervical opening is required for instrument passage or procedural access.

Design & Configuration

The dilator features a smooth, tapered cylindrical profile with a rounded tip to facilitate atraumatic passage through the cervical canal. The single-ended (S/E) configuration provides a solid, rigid shaft that transmits controlled tactile feedback during dilation. The gradual taper minimizes pressure points and allows the clinician to dilate incrementally when used in sequence with smaller sizes.
