Clinical Application
This instrument is intended for controlled mechanical dilation of the cervical canal. It is used to achieve a target cervical diameter prior to intrauterine procedures such as dilation and curettage, hysteroscopy, insertion or removal of intrauterine devices, and other gynecologic interventions that require cervical access. Insert progressively following standard cervical preparation protocols to minimize trauma.
Design & Configuration
The Hegar profile features a smooth, slightly tapered cylindrical shaft that permits gradual dilation with predictable increments. A single-ended configuration simplifies selection when a single working diameter is required during the procedure. The rounded leading tip eases entry into the cervical os and reduces the risk of snagging or laceration compared with irregular or toothed instruments. The straight, rigid geometry provides tactile feedback to the operator for controlled advancement.
