Clinical Application
Used to dilate the cervical canal to a 25.0 mm diameter to permit safe entry into the uterine cavity. Employed in gynecologic procedures such as dilation and curettage (D&C), hysteroscopy, uterine instrument placement, and other operative or diagnostic interventions that require controlled cervical enlargement. Can be used as a final or confirmatory dilator within a graduated set.
Design & Configuration
The Hegar geometry—a straight, solid, slightly tapered cylindrical shaft with a rounded tip—provides gradual, uniform dilation while minimizing focal stress on cervical tissue. The single-ended configuration gives the operator a continuous, smooth dilating surface for consistent tactile feedback during advancement and withdrawal. The smooth finish reduces tissue drag and facilitates atraumatic passage.
