Clinical Application
This single-ended Hegar dilator is used to mechanically dilate the cervical canal to a target lumen diameter of 23.5 mm. It provides atraumatic progressive dilation when access to the uterine cavity is required for procedures such as dilation and curettage (D&C), operative hysteroscopy, endometrial sampling, IUD insertion or removal, and other gynecologic interventions. The instrument is intended for use by trained clinicians applying standard dilation technique and appropriate anesthesia or cervical preparation.
Design & Configuration
The instrument is a solid, straight dilator with a gradual taper terminating in a rounded, atraumatic tip. The single-ended configuration provides a full-diameter working end optimized for achieving the specified canal width in one application. The gradual taper allows controlled entry and progressive stretching of the cervical os, improving tactile feedback and reducing the risk of sudden catches or laceration during dilation. The straight geometry facilitates alignment with the cervical canal and compatibility with standard cervical traction techniques.
Instrument Specifications
- Type: Hegar uterine dilator, single-ended
- Nominal size: 23.5 mm diameter
- Tip: Tapered, rounded atraumatic tip for progressive dilation
- Primary use: Cervical dilation for gynecologic procedures (D&C, hysteroscopy, IUD procedures)
- Construction: Solid, precision-formed rod suitable for repeated sterilization
Material & Construction
Constructed from corrosion-resistant stainless steel suitable for routine hospital sterilization processes. The solid rod design provides rigidity and predictable tactile response during dilation, and the finish minimizes tissue adhesion and facilitates cleaning. The instrument is intended for reusable clinical use when reprocessed according to facility protocols.
Quality & Compliance
