Clinical Application
Designed for mechanical cervical dilation, this Hegar dilator provides controlled radial stretch of the cervical canal to permit safe passage of intrauterine instruments. Common uses include dilation and curettage (D&C), preparation for hysteroscopy, facilitation of IUD insertion or removal, and other gynecologic procedures that require predictable cervical access. The 22.0 mm diameter is used when larger-caliber dilation is required.
Design & Configuration
The straight, single-ended cylindrical design with a rounded, slightly tapered tip allows atraumatic entry and gradual engagement of the internal os. A single-ended Hegar offers a familiar grip and maneuverability for surgeons who prefer a dedicated hand orientation rather than a double-ended rod. The smooth, continuous profile reduces shear against cervical tissue and helps achieve uniform dilation with minimal snagging.
