Clinical Application
Designed to provide controlled, atraumatic dilation of the cervical canal, this Hegar dilator is used to progressively enlarge the cervical os to a defined 20.0 mm diameter. Common clinical indications include preparation for dilation and curettage, hysteroscopy, diagnostic or operative intrauterine procedures, facilitation of instrument passage (e.g., curettes, hysteroscopes), and treatment of cervical stenosis. Use typically follows a graduated dilation sequence, advancing from smaller to larger diameters to minimize trauma.
Design & Configuration
The single-ended, solid-shaft Hegar geometry provides rigidity and tactile feedback during advancement. The smooth, tapered profile with a rounded tip helps center the instrument within the cervical canal and reduces mucosal snagging. A single-ended configuration offers a longer uninterrupted working shaft on one end, which some clinicians prefer for control during deliberate sequential dilation while the instrument is rotated gently to dilate circumferentially.
Instrument Specifications
- Instrument type: Uterine dilator (Hegar pattern)
