Clinical Application
Designed for controlled mechanical cervical dilatation, this Hegar dilator is used to gently enlarge the cervical canal to permit access for intrauterine procedures. Common applications include preparation for dilation and curettage (D&C), hysteroscopy, insertion or removal of intrauterine devices or instruments, and other diagnostic or operative gynecologic interventions where atraumatic, graduated dilation is required. The 12.0 mm diameter provides a moderate-caliber dilation appropriate for many adult patients depending on clinical indication and parity.
Design & Configuration
The single-ended straight rod geometry provides tactile feedback and precise control during manual dilation. A smooth, rounded tip minimizes catch and decreases the risk of cervical trauma while facilitating gradual passage through the os. The uniform shaft profile allows easy handling and advancement, and the single-ended format integrates easily into existing dilator sets for sequential dilation when used alongside smaller or larger sizes.
