Clinical Application
This double-ended Hegar uterine dilator provides controlled mechanical dilation of the cervical canal to allow passage of instruments for procedures such as dilation and curettage (D&C), hysteroscopy, endometrial biopsy, and other operative gynecologic interventions. The paired 13 mm and 14 mm diameters supply adjacent mid-range sizing for stepwise dilation or when a specific single-size dilation is required. The solid rod design permits direct tactile feedback to the operator for gradual, controlled dilation while minimizing cervical trauma when used correctly.
Design & Configuration
The double-ended configuration places two successive Hegar sizes on a single instrument to reduce instrument changes on the sterile field and streamline workflow. Each end is smoothly tapered to a rounded tip to facilitate atraumatic insertion through the cervical os. The rigid, cylindrical shaft transmits axial force evenly for predictable dilation while the polished surface reduces friction during advancement and withdrawal. The short transition between the two sizes supports quick conversion between adjacent diameters without exchanging instruments.
Instrument Specifications
- Instrument type: Uterine dilator (Hegar)
- Configuration: Double-ended (D/E) with 13 mm and 14 mm diameters
- Tip pattern: Smooth, tapered, rounded rod tips for atraumatic entry
- Typical use: Cervical dilation prior to uterine instrumentation (D&C, hysteroscopy, sampling)
- Construction: Solid stainless steel, reusable
Material & Construction
Manufactured from surgical-grade stainless steel with a polished finish to minimize tissue adhesion and facilitate cleaning. The solid, machined rod construction provides the stiffness required for controlled dilation while resisting deformation under axial load. Designed for repeated reprocessing and sterilization in standard hospital sterilization workflows.
Quality & Compliance
Manufactured by FDA-registered OEM facilities and produced under strict quality control standards.
Brand Comparison
Comparable in form and function to equivalent instruments offered by major US medical suppliers.
