Clinical Application
A monaural acoustic horn designed for direct fetal auscultation. Primarily used by obstetricians, midwives and labor & delivery staff for intermittent assessment of fetal heart rate and rhythm at the bedside, during prenatal visits, and in active labor. Well suited for point-of-care confirmation of fetal cardiac activity during Leopold maneuvers, triage, home births and low-resource settings where electronic Doppler or cardiotocography may be unavailable or unnecessary.
Design & Configuration
The conical, monaural horn focuses and amplifies fetal heart sounds into a single listening end, aiding localization of fetal lie and heart rate without electronic amplification. A 15 cm length provides a balance between reach and acoustic sensitivity—allowing the clinician to position the bell on the maternal abdomen while maintaining comfortable working distance. The simple, battery-free design reduces failure modes and is useful where sterile fields or power are limited.
