Clinical Application
Designed for controlled dilation of the mitral valve apparatus during cardiac surgery, these dilating forceps are used to perform commissurotomy and to incrementally enlarge a stenotic mitral orifice. The graduated opening range allows the surgeon to apply measured, progressive separation of fused commissures or to test valve competency during repair procedures performed via atriotomy or trans-septal approaches.
Design & Configuration
The instrument provides a graded dilating span from 8–42 mm to enable stepwise enlargement of the valve opening without abrupt force. The jaw geometry is intended to engage leaflet tissue and commissural structures in a manner that permits controlled manual dilation while minimizing focal stress. An ergonomically configured handle gives the operator tactile feedback for precise control of dilation increments.
