Clinical Application
Used to establish secure transosseous fixation for skeletal traction and temporary stabilization of long-bone fractures. Commonly placed in the femur, tibia, humerus or pelvis to transmit traction forces or to serve as anchor points for external fixation frames and traction appliances. The trocar tip facilitates percutaneous insertion through cortical bone and is intended for procedures performed under fluoroscopic guidance with appropriate soft-tissue protection.
Design & Configuration
The solid, cylindrical shaft provides axial strength and resistance to bending under traction loads. A trocar-style cutting point reduces the need for extensive predrilling and allows controlled, percutaneous entry into cortical bone when used with manual pin drivers or low-speed power drivers. The smooth shaft minimizes bone and soft-tissue drag during insertion and removal, helping reduce iatrogenic tissue trauma.
