Clinical Application

Spheric burrs are rotary cutting instruments used to remove and contour mineralized tissue. The 5.0 mm spherical head is sized for controlled bulk removal, rounding of cortical edges, smoothing cavity walls and shaping bone surfaces during procedures such as craniotomy skull contouring, mastoid and temporal bone work in ENT, joint debridement and preparation in orthopedics, and maxillofacial sculpting. Used with a compatible high-speed surgical handpiece, the spherical geometry allows multi-directional contact for predictable, even material removal while reducing the tendency to dig in at a single point.

Design & Configuration

The spherical cutting geometry provides a continuous radiused contact surface that distributes cutting forces across the head rather than concentrating them on a single tip. This makes it well suited for smoothing and rounding bone margins, enlarging windows or cavities, and finishing contours. The 5.0 mm diameter balances surface coverage with tactile control—large enough to shape moderate areas efficiently yet small enough for controlled approach in confined anatomy. Because it is a rotary burr, it is intended for use only with powered surgical drills or handpieces capable of appropriate speeds and irrigation when indicated.

Instrument Specifications

  • Instrument type: Rotary surgical burr
  • Pattern: Spheric (spherical) cutting head
  • Head diameter: 5.0 mm
  • Intended use: Bone removal, contouring, cavity creation and smoothing
  • Use method: Designed for powered handpiece / high-speed drill operation
  • Reusable: Yes; designed for reprocessing between cases

Material & Construction

Constructed for repeated surgical use and reprocessing. Surgical burrs of this type are commonly produced from surgical-grade tungsten carbide to provide high wear resistance and durable cutting performance; alternative stainless-steel constructions are used in some applications. The shank and head geometry are configured for secure engagement with standard surgical handpieces.

Quality & Compliance

Manufactured by FDA-registered OEM facilities and produced under strict quality control standards.

Brand Comparison

Comparable in form and function to equivalent instruments offered by major US medical suppliers.
