Clinical Application
This trocar-point Kirschner wire is designed for percutaneous placement in a range of orthopedic and trauma procedures. It is used for provisional fragment stabilization during closed or open reduction maneuvers, temporary fixation prior to definitive internal fixation, skeletal traction, and as fixation pins for external fixation constructs. The 2.5 mm diameter provides a balance of cortical purchase and bending resistance for small- to medium-fragment fixation.
Design & Configuration
The trocar point geometry facilitates percutaneous cortical entry with a sharp, three-edged profile that reduces the need for pre-drilling in many applications and improves initial bite into dense cortical bone. A smooth, uniform-diameter shaft minimizes soft-tissue drag during insertion and removal and permits predictable seating in pin clamps and external fixator blocks. The 310 mm length provides extended reach for deeper anatomical corridors or when significant pin protrusion is required for external fixation.
Instrument Specifications
- Type: Kirschner wire (K-wire) with trocar point
- Size: 2.5 mm diameter × 310 mm length
- Tip: Trocar (three-edged) point for cortical penetration
- Typical use: Percutaneous pinning, provisional fixation, external fixation, skeletal traction
- Shaft: Smooth, uniform-diameter for predictable handling and fixation clamp seating
Material & Construction
Manufactured from surgical-grade stainless steel with precision machining and finishing to ensure straightness and reduce surface burrs. The trocar tip is ground for sharpness to optimize penetration and reduce insertion force while the shaft surface finish is designed to limit soft-tissue drag during advancement and removal.
Quality & Compliance
Manufactured by FDA-registered OEM facilities and produced under strict quality control standards.
Brand Comparison
Comparable in form and function to equivalent instruments offered by major US medical suppliers.
