Clinical Application

This trocar‑point K‑wire is designed for percutaneous skeletal fixation and provisional pinning during orthopaedic procedures. It is commonly used for reduction and temporary stabilization of phalangeal, metacarpal, metatarsal and other small‑bone fractures, as well as for pin placement in external fixator constructs and fracture fragment control. The 1.8 mm diameter balances strength with a low profile suitable for soft tissue preservation in hand and foot surgery, while the 140 mm length provides reach for most extremity applications.

Design & Configuration

The trocar point geometry features a sharp, three‑facet penetrating tip that facilitates direct cortical entry with reduced skiving compared with blunt or trocar‑modified tips. The straight, solid shaft provides axial stiffness for reliable placement and resistance to bending during insertion. The combination of a small diameter and extended length allows surgeons to establish provisional fixation or guidewire trajectories with minimal soft‑tissue disruption and reliable purchase in cortical bone.

Instrument Specifications

  • Instrument type: Kirschner wire (K‑wire) trocar point pin
  • Pattern / model: Trocar point
  • Configuration: Solid, straight pin with trocar tip
  • Size: 1.8 x 140 mm
  • Typical use: Percutaneous fixation, provisional pinning, external fixation
  • Material: Surgical‑grade stainless steel shaft

Material & Construction

Manufactured from surgical‑grade stainless steel to provide a combination of strength, toughness and corrosion resistance appropriate for orthopaedic fixation pins. The smooth, polished shaft reduces soft‑tissue drag during insertion and removal. The solid trocar tip is produced to maintain sharpness for reliable cortical penetration.

Quality & Compliance

Manufactured by FDA-registered OEM facilities and produced under strict quality control standards.

Brand Comparison

Comparable in form and function to equivalent instruments offered by major US medical suppliers.
