Clinical Application
Hard 0.6 mm bone wire is used for cerclage and tension-band fixation where a stiff, high-tensile fixation strand is required. Typical applications include circumferential wiring of fractures, provisional reduction and stabilization of bone fragments during internal fixation, and incorporation into tension-band constructs to convert distracting forces into compression at the fracture site. The 0.6 mm diameter provides a balance of strength and profile suitable for small-to-medium bones and clinical situations demanding resistance to elongation and kinking.
Design & Configuration
The hard temper of the wire increases stiffness and tensile strength compared with annealed (soft) wire, improving hold and resistance to loosening under cyclic loading. Supplied on a 10 m spool, the wire is convenient for intraoperative cutting to length, tensioning, and twisting. The single-strand, solid geometry minimizes bulk while providing consistent mechanical behavior during bending, cutting, and knotting or twisting maneuvers performed during cerclage placement.
Instrument Specifications
- Instrument type: Bone (cerclage) wire
- Diameter: 0.6 mm
- Length: 10 m spool
- Typical surgical use: Cerclage wiring, tension-band constructs, provisional and definitive fragment fixation
- Material: Stainless steel, hard temper
Material & Construction
The wire is manufactured from stainless steel in a hard temper to deliver elevated tensile strength and improved resistance to deformation. The solid, single-strand construction provides predictable handling characteristics for twisting and cutting. Stainless steel composition offers corrosion resistance appropriate for implantable fixation applications when used according to surgical best practices.
Quality & Compliance
Manufactured by FDA-registered OEM facilities and produced under strict quality control standards.
Brand Comparison
Comparable in form and function to equivalent instruments offered by major US medical suppliers.
