Clinical Application
This Volkmann bone curette Fig.4 is intended for controlled removal of bone and adherent soft tissue during curettage and debridement procedures. It is commonly used in orthopedics for cleaning bony cavities, in neurosurgery and ENT for precise bone work in confined spaces, and in any case that requires scraping, scooping or preparing a bone surface prior to grafting or fixation. The scoop-shaped working end permits collection of small bone fragments and targeted excision of pathologic tissue without extensive collateral damage to surrounding structures.
Design & Configuration
The Volkmann-style scoop geometry concentrates force at a concave working edge, enabling efficient bite into cancellous bone and controlled shearing of soft tissue. The 27 cm shaft length provides extended reach into deeper operative fields and wounds while maintaining tactile feedback and rigidity for precise manual control. The Figure 4 pattern denotes the specific working-end curvature used to access narrow or angled bone surfaces where a straight curette would be less effective.
