Clinical Application
Designed for controlled bone curettage and debridement, this Volkmann-style curette is used to remove loose bone fragments, granulation tissue, necrotic bone, and soft tissue from confined osseous spaces. The 27 cm length provides extended reach for deeper cavities and working through retractors or exposure in orthopedic, trauma, spine, and maxillofacial procedures. It is also useful for targeted curettage of bone cysts, removal of sequestra in osteomyelitis, and shaping or scraping cancellous surfaces prior to grafting.
Design & Configuration
The scoop-shaped Volkmann blade concentrates scraping force at a defined cutting rim, enabling precise removal of tissue with tactile feedback. The elongated shaft increases working length and leverage for access into deep or narrow surgical fields while maintaining control at the tip. Figure 3 designates a specific blade geometry within the Volkmann family that balances a concave face for material capture with a bevelled cutting edge for efficient curettage.
