Clinical Application
This Volkmann-style bone curette is intended for controlled curettage and debridement of bone and adjacent soft tissue during orthopedic, trauma, hand/foot, and certain maxillofacial procedures. It is used to remove loose bone fragments and granulation tissue, to shape small bony cavities, and to collect cancellous bone for grafting or biopsy. The instrument's profile supports precise scraping in confined or deep surgical sites where careful bone contouring is required.
Design & Configuration
The D/E Fig.A configuration provides two differently sized spoon-shaped bowls on a single 21.5 cm shaft, allowing the surgeon to switch rapidly between a smaller and a larger curette without changing instruments. The elongated shaft provides reach into deeper or narrow exposures while maintaining tactile feedback at the tip. Spoon-shaped bowls concentrate scraping force at the rim for controlled removal of bone with minimal collateral tissue disruption.
