Clinical Application
This instrument is designed for precise curettage of bone and adherent soft tissue in confined surgical fields. Common applications include removal of necrotic or diseased cancellous bone, smoothing and contouring bone margins, debridement of small cavities and cysts, and controlled harvesting of cancellous graft material. Its length and working-end geometry permit access to deeper cavities while maintaining tactile feedback for controlled scraping.
Design & Configuration
The Spratt Fig.4 configuration features a spoon-style working end that concentrates scraping force at the cutting edge, enabling efficient removal of bone or fibrous tissue with minimal collateral damage. At 16.5 cm overall length the instrument provides reach into moderate-depth defects and confined anatomic spaces. The bowl-shaped tip permits containment of loose material while the tapered profile facilitates visual and manual control during curettage.
