Clinical Application
Designed for controlled removal of bone and soft bony debris, this long-shaft Simon bone curette is used to debride, shape or harvest cortical and cancellous bone in confined operative fields. Typical applications include orthopedic procedures (small-bone work, joint debridement), ENT surgery (mastoid and middle-ear bone work), and neurosurgical bone preparation where precise, tactile bone scraping is required. The Fig.3 tip profile provides a defined concave cutting surface for efficient tissue capture with minimal collateral disruption.
Design & Configuration
The elongated 24 cm shaft provides reach into deeper or narrow operative sites while preserving manual control at the proximal handle. The Simon Fig.3 scoop geometry concentrates scraping force along a concave edge, facilitating progressive bone removal and controlled shaping. A simple, rigid shaft-transmission design maintains tactile feedback so surgeons can sense resistance and modulate force during delicate maneuvers.
