Clinical Application
A Simon bone curette with a Fig. 1 tip is used for controlled scraping and curettage of bone and for removal of fibrous tissue, granulation tissue, and necrotic bone. The 24 cm shaft provides extended reach into deeper cavities and narrow surgical sites, making it suitable for orthopedic procedures, selected ENT and skull‑base work, spinal exposure, and cases where precise bone contouring or cancellous bone harvesting is required.
Design & Configuration
The Simon (Fig. 1) configuration features a spoon‑shaped curette tip designed to concentrate scraping forces at the rim while protecting underlying structures with a smooth concave face. The elongated 24 cm shaft improves access to deep or recessed anatomy and gives the surgeon tactile feedback and leverage for delicate bone removal and contouring. A slim profile and low‑volume tip help maintain visibility in confined fields and facilitate controlled removal of small volumes of bone or soft tissue without excessive disruption.
