Clinical Application
This instrument is designed to facilitate controlled subperiosteal dissection of the ribs and costal cartilage. It is used to elevate periosteum and adherent soft tissue during thoracic procedures, chest wall reconstruction, autologous rib graft harvest, and trauma-related rib exposure. The 13 mm spatulated tip provides a balance between broad tissue elevation and focal dissection when working along the curved surfaces of the rib.
Design & Configuration
The curved, angulated spatula geometry follows the natural contour of the rib, enabling atraumatic elevation of periosteum with reduced need for excessive retraction. The 17.5 cm overall length offers reach into the pleural sulcus and deeper chest-wall pockets while maintaining tactile feedback at the tip for precise subperiosteal separation. The 13 mm blade width is sized to permit efficient muscle and periosteal lifting without sacrificing control in confined operative fields.
