Clinical Application
This long-shaft periosteal elevator is intended for blunt subperiosteal and mucoperiosteal dissection and elevation. It is commonly used to raise periosteum from bone surfaces, create mucoperiosteal flaps, and expose bone during procedures such as septoplasty, rhinoplasty, sinus surgery, oral and maxillofacial surgery, dental extractions, and limited orthopedic exposures. The blunt spatula tip preserves soft-tissue integrity while allowing controlled undermining and exposure of osseous landmarks.
Design & Configuration
The Overholt pattern features a curved, spatula-style working end that provides broad contact with the periosteum for atraumatic elevation. The 29.5 cm length enables access to deeper or narrow surgical fields without excessive hand intrusion, improving reach in nasal, sinus, intraoral, and oropharyngeal procedures. The curved geometry facilitates circumferential undermining and gives the operator enhanced tactile feedback when separating soft tissue from bone.
