Clinical Application
Designed for intraoperative finishing and contouring of cortical bone, this Miller bone file is used to smooth sharp edges and remove small spicules following osteotomy, fracture reduction, plate fixation, or other bone-shaping procedures. Common applications include orthopedics, trauma, hand surgery, craniofacial/maxillofacial procedures, and select ENT/otologic interventions where controlled bone abrasion and final surface refinement are required. The instrument is intended for manual bone rasping rather than bulk bone removal performed with powered burrs or osteotomes.
Design & Configuration
The cross-cut filing surface provides multiple transverse cutting edges that facilitate efficient material removal while producing a consistent finish. The D/E designation indicates a double-ended configuration, giving the operator two working profiles or directions from a single instrument for extended reach and versatility in confined operative fields. The straight shaft length improves access to deeper bone surfaces while preserving tactile feedback for fine contouring.
Instrument Specifications
- Pattern: Miller (Fig.13c)
- Configuration: Double-ended, cross-cut rasp
- Length: 18 cm
- Primary use: Smoothing and contouring cortical bone; removal of sharp spicules after osteotomy or fixation
- Reusable instrument suitable for standard sterilization workflows
Material & Construction
Manufactured from surgical-grade stainless steel for durability and corrosion resistance. The cross-cut teeth are integrally formed on the working surfaces to provide consistent abrasion and to resist premature dulling under normal use. Constructed for repeated use and compatible with standard hospital sterilization processes.
Quality & Compliance
Manufactured by FDA-registered OEM facilities and produced under strict quality control standards.
Brand Comparison
Comparable in form and function to equivalent instruments offered by major US medical suppliers.
