Clinical Application
Hand-held bone gouges are used for controlled removal and contouring of cortical and cancellous bone where precision shaving, trough creation or edge smoothing is required. The 15 mm blade width provides a moderate working surface appropriate for shaping ribs, cranial bone margins, mandibular or maxillary contours, small cortical windows and other bone surfaces where a wider chisel would be excessive. At 22 cm overall length the instrument offers reach into deeper fields or between retractors without sacrificing tactile feedback.
Design & Configuration
The chisel-style gouge blade is shaped to deliver efficient push or pull cutting strokes while maintaining a predictable arc of tissue engagement. The F/handle configuration gives the surgeon a secure, ergonomic grip for controlled, single-handed advancement and levering motions. A relatively long shaft separates the handle from the cutting edge to improve access in confined or deep operative corridors while preserving manual control for fine bone work.
