Clinical Application
Designed to provide controlled levering and retraction of bone and periosteum, this Hohmann lever is used to elevate bone edges, create working space around fractures and joint surfaces, and assist with reduction/manipulation during orthopedic and trauma procedures. Common applications include exposure in joint arthroplasty, fracture fixation, small-bone and hand surgery, and general bone retraction when a low-profile, firm working edge is required.
Design & Configuration
The instrument features a single-ended, tapered blade that terminates in a flat, beak-like working edge. The 24 mm blade width provides a broad contact surface for controlled force distribution on bone, while the 260 mm overall length gives reach into deeper surgical fields without excessive hand encumbrance. The contoured shaft and handle geometry allow the assistant or surgeon to apply leverage and maintain consistent retraction with tactile feedback; the flat beak is useful for both lifting and applying lateral pressure during reduction maneuvers.
