Clinical Application
Rochester Ochsner straight forceps are intended for situations that require a secure, non-slip hold on dense or fibrous tissue. The interlocking rat-tooth jaws provide strong purchase for grasping fascia, tendon edges, sutures, and other robust tissues where a firm grip is needed. These forceps are used to provide traction, hold tissue while suturing, or manipulate large tissue segments during open procedures. They are not intended for atraumatic handling of very delicate tissues (e.g., microsurgical neurovascular work).
Design & Configuration
The straight geometry aligns the jaws directly with the shaft for controlled, inline traction and easy visualization in superficial and moderately deep wounds. Ring handles with a ratchet lock allow secure clamping and hands-free retention at the selected pressure. The interlocking rat-tooth jaw pattern creates concentrated grip points to prevent slippage of tough or slippery tissue, making the instrument suitable for tasks that require sustained, reliable holding strength.
