Clinical Application
This three-piece set provides the commonly used Macintosh curved blades for direct laryngoscopy and orotracheal intubation. The Macintosh geometry is designed to be placed in the vallecula to lift the epiglottis indirectly and expose the glottic opening, facilitating passage of an endotracheal tube. Including sizes #2, #3 and #4 covers small adult/older pediatric through large adult airway management, allowing clinicians to select the appropriate blade length for patient anatomy and clinical circumstances.
Design & Configuration
The curved Macintosh blade profile creates a single-plane flange that aligns with the oropharyngeal axis when lifting at the vallecula, improving visualization of the vocal cords without directly hooking the epiglottis. Having a set with contiguous sizes (#2, #3, #4) supports efficient size selection during induction and rapid sequence intubation. Conventional (non-fiber-optic) blades are compatible with standard laryngoscope handles and illumination systems used in operating rooms and procedural suites.
