Clinical Application
This conventional Macintosh blade set is intended for direct laryngoscopy to facilitate visualization of the glottic opening and passage of an endotracheal tube. The included sizes—#2 (78 mm), #3 and #4—cover a broad range of patient anatomies: size #2 for smaller or pediatric patients, size #3 for typical adult patients, and size #4 for larger or deep-chested adults. The set supports routine airway management in operating rooms, ambulatory surgery centers, emergency departments and critical care units.
Design & Configuration
The Macintosh curved blade is designed to be positioned in the vallecula so that lifting the handle indirectly elevates the epiglottis and exposes the vocal cords. This curved geometry is widely preferred for standard oral intubation because it minimizes deep tongue intrusion and provides a controlled line of sight for tube placement. Providing three blade sizes in a single conventional set allows teams to select the appropriate blade quickly during induction or airway rescue, reducing exchange time and improving workflow in multi-provider environments.
