Clinical Application
This speculum provides atraumatic access to the external auditory canal for diagnostic and minor therapeutic otologic procedures. Its 6.5 mm aperture is intended to facilitate direct visualization of the tympanic membrane and canal lining, and to permit introduction of suction tips, curettes, irrigation cannulae or examination instruments. When used with appropriate insufflation accessories, the Politzer-type geometry supports pneumatic maneuvers for Eustachian tube assessment and middle ear pressure testing.
Design & Configuration
The conical, funnel-shaped design concentrates the line of sight and creates a controlled working channel into the ear canal. A flared distal rim helps reduce contact trauma to canal skin and stabilizes the speculum during instrumentation. The Fig.4 pattern denotes a standard speculum profile and size, providing predictable fit and orientation for clinicians who require consistent ergonomics during routine otologic exams and minor procedures.
