Clinical Application
This instrument is designed to elevate periosteum and to rasp or scrape cortical bone surfaces in confined surgical fields. The 8 mm working width provides a narrow profile suitable for intraoral, maxillofacial and small-bone procedures where precision contouring of bone or removal of cortical irregularities is required. It is used to expose bone for fixation or grafting and to prepare bone surfaces while minimizing soft tissue trauma when used with appropriate technique.
Design & Configuration
The serrated posterior edge delivers controlled rasping action while the working surface supports periosteal elevation and blunt dissection. The 17 cm overall length offers reach into deeper oral and facial cavities without excessive handle bulk, allowing tactile feedback and fine control. The hand-held design enables the surgeon to apply both levering and scraping motions as needed for elevation of periosteum, smoothing bone contours, and preparing cortical surfaces for fixation or graft placement.
