Clinical Application
Macintosh curved blades with integrated fiber optic illumination are used to obtain a view of the glottic opening and to facilitate orotracheal intubation in operating rooms, emergency departments, and procedure suites. A set of four blade sizes (#1, #2 (78 mm), #3, and #4) provides the size range needed for smaller pediatric through adult patients, allowing clinicians to match blade length and curvature to patient anatomy for optimal visualization and tube passage.
Design & Configuration
The Macintosh curvature is designed to be positioned in the vallecula to indirectly lift the epiglottis, producing a line of sight to the vocal cords while minimizing direct manipulation of supraglottic tissues. The flange geometry helps displace the tongue and create a working channel for the endotracheal tube. Integrated fiber optic illumination transmits a focused, shadow-minimizing light along the blade’s dorsal surface to improve mucosal visualization compared with non-illuminated blades. Providing four sizes in one set allows rapid selection of the appropriate blade during induction, awake intubation, or difficult airway management.
Instrument Specifications
- Instrument type: Macintosh laryngoscope blade set with fiber optic illumination
- Pattern / model: Macintosh curved blades
- Blade sizes included: #1, #2 (78 mm), #3, #4
- Illumination: fiber optic light transmission integrated into blades
- Typical uses: direct laryngoscopy and facilitation of orotracheal intubation
- Reusable configuration suitable for sterilization between cases
Material & Construction
Blades are manufactured from corrosion-resistant stainless steel for durability and repeated sterilization. Fiber optic light channels are integrated into the blade body to deliver consistent illumination to the distal field; these blades pair with handles that provide the light source and mechanical engagement. The set is supplied as reusable instrumentation designed for standard clinical decontamination and sterilization workflows.
Quality & Compliance
Manufactured by FDA-registered OEM facilities and produced under strict quality control standards.
Brand Comparison
Comparable in form and function to equivalent instruments offered by major US medical suppliers.
