Clinical Application
Designed for urologic use to assess and maintain urethral patency, these bougies are used for gentle dilation, urethral calibration, and as an introducer to facilitate safe catheter passage. They are used intraoperatively and in clinic settings for management of urethral strictures, preoperative sizing, and when a tactile probe is required to negotiate narrowed segments prior to definitive treatment.
Design & Configuration
The straight, tapered shaft and smoothly contoured, rounded tip minimize mucosal trauma during insertion while providing reliable tactile feedback to the operator. The smooth, highly polished surface reduces friction within the urethral lumen, allowing controlled dilation and easier negotiation of strictured segments. The tapered geometry assists in progressive dilation and controlled up-sizing when selecting catheter or dilator diameter.
