Clinical Application
Used to explore and delineate the anorectal canal and associated fistula tracts. The probe and accompanying director allow controlled passage through internal openings, help define tract length and direction, and facilitate seton placement or guided passage of sutures and drains during proctologic procedures (e.g., fistulotomy, seton placement, drainage of abscesses and transanal examinations).
Design & Configuration
The straight slender shaft and 18 cm working length provide sufficient reach for adult anorectal examinations while preserving tactile feedback. The director (a spring or removable stylet that fits within or alongside the probe) permits fine directional control when negotiating curved or tortuous tracts, reducing the need for repeated manipulation and minimizing tissue trauma. A smooth, rounded atraumatic tip reduces the risk of mucosal injury while allowing reliable passage through internal openings.
