Clinical Application

Designed for otologic microsurgery, this footplate instrument is used to manipulate and prepare the stapes footplate during stapedectomy/stapedotomy and other middle-ear procedures that require precise control of the ossicular chain. Its low-profile geometry and fine working end allow the surgeon to operate within the confined transcanal corridor under an operating microscope, facilitating tasks such as gently elevating or stabilizing the footplate, clearing debris or fragments, and assisting with prosthesis placement.

Design & Configuration

The instrument’s footplate-specific geometry and slim shank are intended to provide unobstructed access to the middle ear while minimizing soft-tissue interference. An ergonomically contoured handle supports fingertip control and tactile feedback, enabling delicate manipulation without excessive bulk. The working end is shaped to engage the stapes footplate area with controlled contact, which helps reduce the risk of inadvertent trauma during fine ossicular work.
