Clinical Application
This instrument is designed to assist in thyroid and cervical goitre procedures where controlled blunt dissection and guided placement of sutures or ligatures are required. The director/enucleator facilitates capsular dissection and mobilization of glandular tissue, allowing the surgeon to develop tissue planes while minimizing traction on adjacent structures such as parathyroid glands and the recurrent laryngeal nerve. The integrated eyelet permits passage of ligatures, vessel loops or probes to secure pedicles or mark structures during dissection.
Design & Configuration
The instrument combines a tapered shaft and a blunt, atraumatic enucleation surface with a small eyelet at the tip. The tapered geometry provides precise directional control when advancing into a cleavage plane, and the blunt profile reduces the risk of inadvertent sharp injury during capsule separation. The eyelet is positioned to allow smooth threading of suture, ligature, or vessel loop material without requiring a separate passer, streamlining steps such as tying-off vessels or creating sling retraction during thyroid lobectomy or subtotal thyroidectomy.
