Clinical Application
This bow is used as an attachment to percutaneously placed Kirschner (K-) wires to provide controlled extension, spacing and anchorage in temporary external fixation and traction setups. It is commonly used in the management of hand, wrist and distal radius fractures, small-bone fractures of the foot and hand, and as a component in multi-pin external fixation constructs where K-wires are employed. The device facilitates manipulation, maintenance of alignment and application of traction during reduction and dressing changes.
Design & Configuration
The bow-shaped configuration provides a stable, low-profile mounting point at the exposed end of a K-wire, allowing clear access for clamps and connectors while keeping the construct spaced from soft tissue. The 120x120 mm geometry offers a defined span and standoff useful for adult and many pediatric extremity applications, helping to maintain lever arm and soft-tissue clearance during traction or frame assembly. Its simple form permits rapid attachment and removal during intraoperative reduction or temporary stabilization.
