Clinical Application
This instrument is intended to achieve controlled mechanical dilation of the cervical canal prior to intrauterine procedures. A 15 mm working diameter is appropriate for dilation when larger caliber access is required for diagnostic or operative hysteroscopy, dilation and curettage, and certain therapeutic uterine interventions. Use in staged dilation techniques reduces the risk of cervical trauma; clinicians typically progress through incrementally larger dilators and confirm position by tactile feedback.
Design & Configuration
The dilator's tapered shaft geometry facilitates gradual passage through the cervical os and provides controlled radial expansion as the instrument is advanced. A rounded, atraumatic tip minimizes the risk of endocervical laceration during insertion. The single-ended, rigid rod configuration gives the operator direct tactile feedback and stability when establishing uterine access.
